Welcome to The Tool Library Selkirk!
We're a lending library for tools, appliances, and garden machinery. Providing items that might not be practical to buy or store for personal use. As part of The General Store, Selkirk, we have workshop facilities to handle maintenance and electrical safety testing right here. Through sharing we aim to reduce the number of low-quality tools ending up in landfill, and help to save you money.
What is a Tool Library?
A place where you can borrow tools and other items when you need them, rather than buying new. You save money, save storage, and we do the maintenance. Get the right tool for the job without breaking the bank.
How do I join the Tool Library?
You need to come in to the Reuse Store with recent proof of address AND separate photo ID. You can also start the registration process online to save time filling in all of your details, but you will still need to visit the Tool Library for us to verify your ducuments.
How much does it cost?
A yearly membership fee is £25 and then you can then borrow anything from the Tool Library stock, at no extra cost, as often as you need. If you would like to support a membership for someone else you can pay £30, or you feel you can’t afford it but would still like to join up then please come speak to us privately about special rates.
What sort of things will I be able to borrow?
We offer items such as carpet cleaners, hedge trimmers, sanders, drills, electric saws and so on. We are very keen to hear from you – what would you like to borrow? Check out our inventory to see what we have available, or come in and ask.
How long can I borrow for?
Typically for up to 5 days but it may be possible to arrange an extension and you can of course borrow again another time in the future.
How do I reserve an item?
You can reserve items via the website, or come into the Reuse Store and book in person. An item isn’t reserved though until you have received confirmation from us. You can also request a reservation by emailing us at toollibraryselkirk@gmail.com
